Retrospective Blame

by Larry Chamberlin   May 28, 2018

In a forgotten time long denied by good men
we were all evil and mutually drenched
in the blood of many innocent children
sacrificed to that thirst never quenched.

Due to the twenty-first century kills
education included something called
Active Shooter Protocol drills
and nobody was even appalled.

I love the title, Mr. Larry, it really sums up the entire poem. I just love it so much. Haha. I am a believer that everything is connected and interellated to each other in a way or another. I love how you relate the retrospection about the things in a forgotten time to the things that is happening today. It's creative, clever, and thoughtful in some sense. It's sad that those shootings keep on happening and the world seems to be getting used to it, some just won't care about it anymore. I love how the wording in each stanza kinda separates the time they are in, or gives emphasis to the time, one moment it's like you're reading a legend book and then jumping in to something modern. You did all that without losing the powerful message that this poem is trying to convey. Great job. This gets 1 of my nominations for the week. Haha.
