A Rich Earth

by Domenico Sottile   Jun 26, 2018

Acquaintances and friendships
come and go
It is the lessons
that remain in our minds
that count
They are treasures
no matter the amount

One brought me joy
another tears
One’s voice
gave pleasure to my ears
I found nurturing from a great lady
and laughter
when I was ready

On the long journey
confusion lead me
to the threshold of clarity
beliefs instead of facts
clouded the path of truth
depriving me of serenity
and self assurance
that left me
stuck on the uncouth

Many philosophers have stated
it be hooves us to love and accept each other
as we were created
Otherwise and regardless
a narrow mind may wish
to continue on the current process
we will be annihilated

Philosophers and writers
of books of divinity
believed our planet
to be the center
of the universal plenty
and yet the number
of stars in space
is immensely greater
than all the grains of sand
on earth for ever to be
This we now see

We are minute particles
of a rich earth
crying out for protection
back and forth
Small bits who do not need
lending nor borrowing
nor subsequent
nefarious following
but cosmic world visions
void of takeovers

This universe of ours
gave us enough for all our needs
so that we may stay free
from any speculated beliefs
and bad political
ecclesiastical weeds

Believe if you will
as long as you know
that beliefs are just beliefs
thus be ware
that many others
many of them do not share
and for sure
we should be
on the alert
for beliefs
more than weapons
can hurt
