I lay beside you, watching,
While you sleep to catch the hours
You worked so early, just to earn
The money for the flowers.

I listen to you curl your breath
At each intake of air.
I watch how calm your face looks,
While you sleep away your cares.

I watch your face contorting,
With whichever dreams you see.
I smile to see your creases.
Do you ever dream of me?

I wait while I can lay here, waiting,
While you nap, so then
We can have some hours together,
Before bed, again.

Shifts and odd work patterns mean
We have to make the most
Of what we get together,
And I am not one to boast,

But I think we're quite awesome.
Luckier, I think, than some.
We make our love work, if we want.
Sleep now, then we'll have fun!

    Hi Catherine,

I like this poem; it's like a snap shot into your world. The fact you've added rhyme and separated the poem into quatrains pleased me.

Life's hard isn't it? Trying to squeeze quality time into a busy, often stressful life is not easy.

Thankyou for sharing and I wish you every happiness. After all, there's always time for fun, right? X
