9 months

by Maple Tree   Jul 22, 2018

I, along with your father
created your soul, it took
us nine months for us to
be introduced.

darkness created your ending
the doctors are predicting
nine months; maximum
for me to say goodbye.

Bird,
I dont know how to approach this
and I cant say I love you enough,
within each verse I write it feels
like I need to say more.

Each time you fight cancer,
drug addiction steps in
and takes you two feet backwards;
you become alert and caged
fighting the cancer again.

Its a roller coaster for you
and I beg for you to get off
this ride, but its never ending.

Drug addiction verses Cancer
is a lethal ticket to finalization
and Im in complete tourture,
watching my baby choke this
reality.

I envisioned your ending
would be for me holding
your hand when you take
your last breath, but you
will be alone in your cage-

I have no other choice but
to write to you each memory,
completing our sentences
with I love you's and goodbyes.

I love you to the moon and back~

Note: As a writer I dont need to explain
everything I write, however I want to connect
with other parents- those who are watching
their child battle drug addiction and those who
are battling cancer. My 27 year old daughter
is battling both at the same time and is currently
incarcerated once again... she is now doing 17 months
in jail, and Friday the Oncologist has given her 9 months
to live if not less. I am writing my feelings as they come
and I share these with my girl, I am not adding any poetic
flare or style to these, they are for her.. however I am sharing
these on this site in hopes to reach out to other parents who
are having to watch their child struggle with these diseases.
If you are reading my poetry and you need a parent for support
please message me, you are not alone, hugs you.

Andrea I say to all my friends, express your emotions, thoughts, experiences. Just release them, and good to see that you are doing it everyday. Writing them into such beautiful thoughtful words.

    Love and light my friend.

    Andrea,

Its such a beautiful gift to be able to write with such emotion, of which I have no idea what you and many others are going through. Writing has a love, that shares the innermost of another in all shades.
Thank you for sharing, and sending all my warmth and hopes
    Much love

Andrea, I am so very sorry for you as you know and I am always here to listen.
Not a poem to be analysed technically, but these two lines are excellent:
    Drug addiction verses Cancer
is a lethal ticket to finalization

    Love to you both,

    Ben
