Alpha Dog

I am not very hairy at all
My head is rather smooth
But I still identify with canines
For I will fight with nail and tooth

Felines! They don't mind me
As I bear then no ill will
But they're slinky little buggers
They only come to eat their fill

They eat the food you offer
They then will drink your milk
Then skulk away without notice
Their purr as smooth as silk

But I'll always favor dogs
Because they don't wait to be fed
If I leave food unattended
They will scoff it down instead

I know this should make me angry
Especially when it's a lovely steak
But it was my own stupid fault
And what a mistake to make

I've met big and beasty dogs
They will growl for a little while
But they always know who's alpha
When they lay at my feet I smile

The biggest toughest dog
Has crumbled at my touch
It's not that I'm aggressive
It's because I show them love

Big dogs to some are scarey
And they fill people with fear
You can level them so easily
With just a scratch behind the ear
