Act

by IdTakeABulletForYou   Aug 8, 2018

There is a time in the past
you will look back on
and revel in its splendor.

Such days long gone age well,
for in one's youth
the mentality maintained is that
there are better days ahead.
Very quickly time passes and reversal sets in,
bringing birth to the belief
that the best days are gone.

You never truly realize these days
when they're at your doorstep.
Greed assumes that better times
will be had,
must be had,
are guaranteed.

Rest uneasy knowing your best days have been numbered all along,
and were had whilst anticipating even better days
--days that could never exist.

Live not with the future in mind,
instead reveling in the past when it is the present.
The only way to live,
and truly appreciate living,
is to act as if no better day exists
than today.

Great message. We are all guilty of taking time for granted, reveling in the past, hoping for better days yet wasting present time.

Beautiful poem that truly makes the reader think... I know it put me in check and made me think a little harder about how I've been spending my days.

I suppose we can all learn for this. What a powerful ending...
I couldnt sum it up any better.
