Two days before leaving you

by nouriguess   Aug 11, 2018

Don't make promises you
can't keep, because
I won't.
I won't say that I'll never forget you.
I might forget you. I might
want to forget you, and it's not
the distance. It's the memories that we
have. The war; the only thing
we have in common. The pieces of tragedy
still shrapneled into our bodies.

I knew it
the moment I saw you,
I've always heard
a goodbye in your voice.
