I Don't Think About You Anymore, But...

by Someone Invisible   Aug 21, 2018

You’re never on my mind,
I no longer think on you;
But last night I found your
Carelessly discarded shirt under my bed.

You’re never on my mind,
I no longer think on you;
But last night I woke up suddenly,
And I swear I could smell you on my bed sheets.

You’re never on my mind,
I no longer think on you;
But when I ran to the bank today, I froze,
Cause I thought I saw your truck drive by.

You’re never on my mind,
I no longer think on you;
But I find myself still waiting sometimes,
For you to come home after work in the afternoons.

You’re never on my mind,
I no longer think on you,
But when I make myself dinner, I find,
I still avoid using things you didn’t like to eat.

You’re never on my mind,
I no longer think on you;
But, God, you’re still in my heart,
And I can’t seem to ever escape that fact.

Habits of the Heart are hard to change,
I guess.

    I like the repetition here. It works very well at propelling the reader swiftly from one thought to another. When you have had someone in your heart for a long time it really is hard to change the habits of the heart although it does become easier with time. Milly x
