What's Left Behind

by Walter   Sep 9, 2018

I don't see the point
Every time that I try
To give you all my love
Which you still deny

But you want me there
On standby and on call
You know that you are weak
And you're afraid you might fall

I'm always there for you
Through heartache and through pain
This has become a vicious circle
Which I can't do again

He's left you now for good
And he will not return
This is just a lesson in love
Which you need to learn

It's now me who you call
To be there by your side
And I see your emotions show
Which you cannot hide

And how do you think I feel
My feelings are all shame
When it's me you hold so tight
But still call his name

You know it has been a while
Days have turned to weeks
Every time I have been there
It's still of him that you speak

I'm lost on what I can do
To try and help you move on
How long do you think it will take?
Before you realize that he's gone

I think there's only one way
To fix all this despair
When you call for me tomorrow
I will no longer be there

Maybe then you'll finally see
All my love that you forbid
But no doubt you'll find someone else
To love you just like he did

    Walter,
a nice rhyming piece, showing how we are vulnerable to ones we love, and how we are treated by them at times.
    Well done

Very strong and powerful poem, I really connected with the sixth stanza.
