SPARKLE

SPARKLE

My Mom thought that my *name would bring me to fame. She was right, as the lead cheerleader, the crowd went wild when the scoreboard flashed my name.
The boys literally fell at my feet, longing for a chance for me to meet. It wasn’t long before a talent scout appeared at my door, handed me a contract with a money amount that almost caused me to hit the floor.

Acting came easy to me, as an ex-cheerleader you see, after a few “B” movies a huge smash hit belonged to me. I fell in love with my co-star, we had a marvelous Hollywood reception at a famous bar.

A few kids were in the making, and I had some rare time to do some baking. The years flew swiftly by, our daughter was now much more that knee high. My cowboy star husband had long gone, his lawyers left me bleak, almost took the farm, who said that I should turn the other cheek? I had aged, a star no more, but, just a ranch hand on my own land.

My son went to live with his dad because of all the wealth he had, my daughter seems very aloof, now in her 20’s, she calls me an old goof. She told me that she wanted to be just like me when I was a big star, she said; like me, she met this cool agent guy in a bar.

I had, like my Mom, named my daughter an unusual name in order to give her a start to fame, but every night I cry myself to sleep, in my pursuit of wealth and greatness, all that I reaped was total shame. In this merry go round world, I lost it all, having missed the gold ring. Its too bad, I reminisced, about all that has gone by, I should have married that shy cable guy.

*Many years ago, I knew a person named; "Merry Christmas", true story!
