The Headlands

by D.   Dec 12, 2018

Marooned upon
every square inch of your
shore,

harpooned,
ensnared;
the decay attracting
ravenous gulls

total rapture -

pecking and tearing
what’s left to the marrow,
until the bones are
hollow and the evening
tide beckons

my putrid wreckage;

a crooked memorial
planted in
my stead.

Maroon upon
every square inch of your
shore.

    So much beyond what is said here, I feel. This piece has an edge of something so demeaning in a sense, with a dark undertone.
    Nicely written
