Such divide

by Michael   Dec 18, 2018

The colour fades
from her cheeks,
as she rides the storm of humanity.

she pedals-
attempting to keep the world balanced,
but the wheels of her cycle are buckled.

men stick their heels in.

the earth becomes a stomping ground;
trudged with dark carbon footprints.

her throat squeezed with gaseous hands
of a lazy society.
the air thins;
preventing a supply of oxygen.

-history is coming
with bang!

Ironic.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

yet year after year-
she produces
life, for us to live;
scenes for us to absorb;
with a garden that brings music to our ears
and we are blessed with scents of birth

her battles continue, as
man wages war against her civilisation.

the heat is on-
our earth is becoming small-fry;
in a much bigger picture.

voices still cry out from churches
echoing their beliefs;
hopes falls on deaf ears

no wonder-

she huffs and puffs.

    Michael, this is such a powerful piece! I keep reading it and feeling this rush of emotions, disappointment at how we forget to care for what gives us life and has cared for us time and time again. We must not forget Mother Nature's plea, her compassion, her sacrifice.

    Congrats on the win, will read this again and again!
