Petals & Rosebuds

by D.   Feb 12, 2019

I saw the promise of
Spring dancing in your irises,
love, and as I got closer
to the meadow, I could taste
the pollen on my tongue -

I counted three ‘love me’s,
and two ‘love me not’s,
as you threaded a dandelion
through your amber curls,

there was no other place
in the world -

reeds were swooning on the
winds’ behest; I kissed the space
between your collarbone
and breast, laid you back
upon the flowerbed -

lips bloomed red;
I planted mine upon
your forehead -

I saw the promise of
Spring dancing in your irises,
love, and as I got closer
to the meadow, I could taste
your pollen on my tongue -

there is nowhere else that
I’ve belonged.

    "as you threaded a dandelion
    through your amber curls,"

The whole piece is brimming with beautiful imagery, but these lines held such... I don't even know but wow! Simple and satisfying!
