Valentine Nerves

by Milly Hayward   Feb 12, 2019

Valentine day is almost here
I sit here sinking in my fear
Dare I ask her if she'll be mine
I need a second glass of wine.

With golden hair and gentle smile
and a natural carefree style
She's kind and sweet a dream come true
of my feelings she has no clue

Dream of her through every night
where things between us turn out right
By day I plan to make her mine
but fear my bid she might decline

So nervously I make my stand
pass her the rose just as I planned
Will you love me just for one day?
I asked her in a husky bray

She smiled and put her hand in mine
You are to me so very fine
We can go out tonight to dine
and I will be your Valentine

Milly, I do love this time of year. It is when my 'all year' feelings are shared by many others.

Your poem reminded me of days when love felt a risk to share with another - would they reciprocate? Nervousness, sweaty palms, watery eyes, I could hardly talk, let alone ask a young lady to dine with me.

lovely poem for this time of year - to be honest, any time of year!

Thanks for the special memories. x
