My Odyssey

by Francis Njoroge   Feb 13, 2019

Its a cold May evening,
I sit down and start writing,
A penny for your thoughts, you may say,
But my real aim is more than any dime can pay,
A life journey, a day like today, was started,
And every dawn till dusk thereafter, never halted,
As you reflect on your life during this day,
Remember its a page in the book of life, make hay,
For as chapter by chapter the story unfolds,
You will finally know what the future holds,
And with brisk steps walk towards the epilogue,
To conclude the book of life,
A book which has eluded me.

I seek light in darkness,
But cannot find it for I am blinded,
I am like a prisoner who seeks a chance,
To run away from the chains that fetter them,
Only mine are emotional rather than physical chains,
Little chains of misery clinging in my head,
Locking me up from my soul,
Imprisoning my conscience and torturing me,
I am a prisoner of my own self,
In the darkness, chained, imprisoned and tortured,
Seeking light, Searching for freedom.

Powerful and reflective piece. Your voice holds wisdom, a yearning for meaning and fulfillment, and to know there is a way to transcend this "prison" that our mind creates.

Well-expressed and it's something I feel others can easily connect to. When we seek that light, that purpose, that hope, only to have barriers and chains surround us.

Heavy are the chains of the cage we make for ourselves. A sad tale of how life can quickly spiral into darkness. I hope that light will once again start to edge its way back in to your life and illuminate the missing key that will set you free to enjoy the life you were meant to enjoy.
    Best wishes Milly x
