Affecting Social Justice

In this world,
we have no choice what we're born as.
We are the representatives for our kind
and we must defend the weaker
as we come to understand the way our world works.

I see this in animals screeching loudly in the forest,
protecting themselves proactively.
Over many years,
these traits have been passed down to their offspring
which allows them to thrive in a world where before
they might not have.

And so this wisdom is found in the forest:
-scare the predators with your loud screeches
-let your numbers make them aware
they don't want to **** with you.
-allow your colors to be seen
so they know that if they try you
they might never be the same again.

I was born into a time where my enemy was myself.
I had been taught it was wrong, I was wrong,
I was broken.

Still, it was a better time,
as brave souls had come before and began paving the way,
setting the precedent for a new era of change.

No longer would I see myself as a flaw,
as an unmistakable sin in the intricate fabric of the universe,
but as a being deserving to be understood,
to live,
to love.

These souls gave up
comfort for truth,
ease for justice,
hate for love
- for us.

That can all stop today
with silent souls allowing
their brethren to be slaughtered,
their lovers to be lost,
and a world to be created where we are beings
not deserving to be understood,
to be loved,
or to live.

It is important to understand
social justice is not affected by silence.
It is affected by the loud noise you make
when you tell people the truth.
It is affected by the colors you share with the world,
unafraid to be seen and known.
It is progressed by learning that you are not an object of shame,
but a being whom you should be unequivocally proud of.

Brave souls came before you with a legacy.
They sacrificed many years of their lives,
and others will sacrifice many more,
just so that you
can be
you.

Bravo. It is very important to stand up for what you believe and that your voice is heard. I am from a generation (born in the 50's) where speaking your mind was a crime. I did not care and I have been teaching my children and grandchildren to speak up. We have to do it in a constructive way however. The only way we can change something is by raising our voice. Add to my favorite and thank you for sharing. All the very best to you.

This piece will hopefully inspire those to speak out when they need to.

    This verse;
" I was born into a time where my enemy was myself.
I had been taught it was wrong, I was wrong,
    I was broken."
In particular. Yes you were born into a time where we were told this is your lifes expectations now make it happen.. and i dont think many of us did. We as a generatiom decided enough was enough. We called the older ones on their beliefs as they did the generation before them.
You are correct - the way we change is through noise. Using our voices to stand up..

Well done on a fantastic write.. wish i could nominate
