Left Shoe

by Mortal Utopia   Apr 14, 2019

We used to stroll new and bright
under the summer sun; the things
you had right, I’ve always had left.
And so we swayed and crept
like twins, with all our familiar opposites.

Years back, they used to say we looked alike
as we tread under the shadows of a human -
our fraying laces tied the same way,
or when we stayed motionless,
feeling a little empty by the doorway.

But you know, one day,
when we no longer look the same,
when each wear and each tear
diverges us further from one another,
I really wish we can still walk on:

side by side, one after another,
carrying together.

I thought the topic was very original so well done there.

I felt a sadness as a read through the poem like you were anticipating a change that you were not really happy about but were helpless to stop.
