I wish I

by Walter   May 8, 2019

You know I miss how we were
When I think back to the start
We used to be a team I'm sure
Before we grew apart

It's like I don't know you now
Or listen to what you say
I can't even understand how
I live with you every day

It's hard to wake up to you
Already I'm so depressed
And anything that we will do
Is bound to make me stressed

I wish I could simply leave
With you I cannot stay
I really need some room to breathe
Since you're always in my way

But I know this can't be done
And forever you'll be with me
As your reflection is the one
In a mirror I always see

I just want to run and hide
I will never accept myself
And every time I look inside
I wish I was someone else

There's almost a playfulness I perceived with the rhyme, and it was certainly not the ending I was expecting, which gave this piece depth and darker notes. Isn't it incredible how we can stand or get in the way of ourselves? That we can sometimes be our own roadblock to happiness or moving forward to something that may help us grow?

Just one note that the fourth stanza, third line should read "breathe". Congrats on the win!

Thanks Poet and I appreciate your comments. And also for pointing out that typo I let slip by...now corrected.

Loved this clever rhymed piece. Flows throughout and has a great twist at the end. Had to nominate. Milly x
