Crossroads

by Dayo   May 10, 2019

At midpoint he stands,
Aloof with joggling thoughts
Of which way to take or not;
Home safe is the longing,
But he must dare to choose.

Before him is the pact of fear
To which he must sign or resign,
His thoughts to yield to another or not
For to the bargain of ransom he is held -
To live or die.

To live is to cast the die,
And to die is to cast another;
Yet he must bear to chose the best.
To trade one for another is the viable road
For the heart is taken out of its place.

Breathe is enticed as an alien,
And the mien of gallows as natural.
None the roads excite the mind,
Alas, two worlds can't be lived in!
Each its streak must live to bear.

He is breezed to guest the alien,
And resign his whole to him.
Tunes of discord still play in mind,
To die within but live outside or
Alive within and dead outside.

    Loved this from start to finish. A choice that hopefully most of us never have to make. Glad to see it nominated. Best wishes Milly x
