Freedom comes easily to one
who can't sit still.
A short walk becomes
a solo flight across a meadow,
through trees and above
water mirror still
where your reflection
keeps you company it
gazes into your soul.
You see loons,
they need one another
desperate for attention
their harsh wailing
betrays a majestic exterior.
They can stay alone underwater.
Though it's hard to believe
they'd do it forever.
But you, the kingfisher,
small but mighty,
azure paragon of solace
in the dawn's cool light.
You relish the opportunity
to escape, to be alone.
Although I did catch you once,
with a friend in tow.
