I Hear Her

by FTS Miles   Sep 19, 2004

I hear her sob in the night
And roll over to comfort her,
To hold her while she
Sighs trickles gasps her tears,
To shield her from herself,
And the chasm between
What is and where she once flew,
Sky and sun and love
Not as easily savoured now...
But I move to kiss her gently,
Sooth her trembling with a gentle stroke,
And find nothing in the calm
But cotton and down and her scent
Permeating the dark....

I suppose she will have to handle
This heartache alone....

I wrote this poem about feeling the ache of someone you love from afar, but not being able to do anything about that ache. And that's what the last two lines were to represent. Just a bit metaphysical, I suppose. :)
