My Princess

by Brandon Evans   Jan 18, 2005

She came to me deep in reverie
with eyes as compelling as the sun
a siren song stirring the heavens
and hair, like beams of the moon.

Her smile, warm and comforting.
Skin, soft as floral petals.
and physique of a perfect angel

Mesmerized, I stood in silence
as tears of awe fell to the ground.
So many years spent in search
finally, she stood before me…

Light poured from her seraphic force
Love and care shown in every movement
Finesse, flowed through her tender voice.
Her soul, the embodiment of grace.
She alone, held the keys to my heart.

I approached her with open arms
professing my love with each step.
But as her smile slowly faded
I realized something was wrong.
The closer I had moved toward her,
the more faint she became.
As I reached out to touch her face
her form disappeared without warning
vanishing into the night…

Falling to my knees; broken, alone
I called out to the sky above:
“Please return my angel
I cannot live without her”
But alas… there was no reply…

Cursing God, cursing life, cursing myself
Everything was to blame
Everything but her…
I spent so long, wrapped up in my own depression
I never took time to realize the problem.

“You cannot change what you cannot control”
In a time of chaos and confusion
One thing still remains true…
I have control over my existence
I am not the man I was born to be
I am the man I have chosen to be

I blame her not for walking away
She gave me thousands of reasons to love her
Yet, I gave her none in return

Men speak with kind words often
But how many ever follow through
I claim that she is my inspiration
But talk comes easy, doesn’t it?

She has made me want to be a better man
Now is my time to prove it.
We are who we choose to be
Today I choose to follow in her image

Sometimes I wonder…
will this dream someday end?
Was she ever more than an illusion
Why am I the only one who sees her?
Sees her for the princess she really is

I wish I could show her to the world
let everyone see her through my eyes
she makes life better everyday
yet no one seems to notice.

I know she’s not a dream
Because you can see her too
You don’t need to use these eyes
You only need a mirror.
