Falling From You

by Daniel Mulvany   Apr 26, 2005

Remember now,
At the bottom of a bottle,
Where the ground breaks and the earth collapses?
There I am falling from you,
Reaching for a neverpresent grasp,
Where there was always a hand to hold.
May my ghost have life to drag you down with me.
I'll tear at your ankles,
As well as your heart,
Until you fall just as I have.
Then will you listen to reason,
When you're face down in the dirt,
Or when I can no longer gasp for breath,
When all the words I've said are lost to the wind,
And from my back I stare at the stars,
With half the eyes that did stare at those stars?
So this is where I lay,
And in my heart I feel you say,
"I've forgotten what life looks like from down there."
To tell the truth I'd wish not say,
But to honesty betray would be manipulating,
Thus I respond,
As plain as words could say,
"It looks like a life without you."
