Packed Away

by Mel   Jun 1, 2005

The green dress by the door
will be put in the same box as
the doll called sandy-
as will the cream shoes
and the books by Taylor Bradford.
There will be no need
now for the electricity bill to
be paid by Monday.
And no one will shed a tear
if the radiator is not fixed
by Sunday.
The fruit in the bowl
will perish.
The contents of the fridge will be
emptied and the door left open -
but not for a holiday this time.
This time Alisha has gone for good.
At 04:50 or thereabouts
Alisha checked out
of this world of ours.

The little things that go through our heads and daily life during a death are ones we don't forget. Looking around at the physical items left and relating. Beautiful poem.
