Under the Surface

by Ashleigh Skye   Jun 13, 2005

A picture is worth a thousand words,
thats what they've said for years,
because it can express many things,
from your hopes to your darkest fears.

This picture I'll paint for you,
will make you feel hope as well as pain,
as you see everything through my eyes,
without any social stain.

I see a young girl shoot,
her friend between the eyes,
simply to help her ease the pain,
and let her dance in the blue skies.

I see a young man sitting,
all covered in chains and bruised,
because he stood up for what was right,
when his family was being used.

I see a young girl crying,
as her father runs out the door,
because abandoning his family,
is the only way to give them more.

I see a mother sobbing,
as she throws her baby in the lake,
because growing up in their world,
would only cause him to break.

So look beyond what you see,
until you get to whats real,
because sometimes whats under the surface,
isn't the real deal.
