First Day

by Hpfan36   Jul 4, 2005

A fresh new school year
Nice and brisk like a cold glass of iced tea
Full of page-turning suspense like a mystery novel
A day where you want to make the best impression possible
You're surrounded by numerous new faces
Overwhelming, yet wonderful
You can hardly wait for that bell to ring

Then it rings, vibrating through the halls
Frantic footsteps hurry down the hall at its signal
Sparkling eyes glance this way and that for their destination
Eager faces wait to see if anyone they recognize will show
Then, the bell explodes once more, echoing through the empty halls

In their classes, each student sits
Nervous, eyes shift here and there
Scanning the teacher
Thoughts flow through each mind
Strict or cool?, they wonder
The true answer can only be revealed in the upcoming days
The eyes soon fall on one another
Slight smiles, pissy smirks, nervous grins, blank stares
A variety of expressions for each person
Some judge by one's looks, others take time to actually know a new face

Then the outburst of a ring shrieks through the hall once again
Students collect their belongings and shuffle out the door
Nervousness returns
Again, they will be invited by a new room
Again, they will face more new people

And so... their day progresses on
