Sweet Dreams

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Jul 19, 2005

Silence reigns in the playground.
Her flashlight pierces the darkness.
Dark shadows dance in the distance.
She shivers in the light breeze.

The sound of dry leaves startles her,
Breaking the silence of the night.
A dark shadow moves in the darkness.
She's not alone.

"Who's there?"
No answer comes in return.
Frightened, she grips the flashlight.
Listening for the intruder.

Alert, she searches.
Yet the light detects nothing.
Silence reigns in the playground.
No sound is heard.

Suddenly, the shadow steps out.
The glistening of the gun
Shines in the moonlight.
Panic.

The trespasser's face hidden.
Gloves covering his hands.
Blending in with the darkness.
Black.

Only the glint of the gun shines.
Slowly, he approaches her.
His gun leveled with her face.
Anger read in his eyes.

He continues to approach,
Cautiously.
Once at a safe distance,
He reveals himself.

As she realizes who the intruder is,
Her scream echoes in the night.
Terrified.
"Sweet dreams, my darling" is all he said.

He lifts the gun to her face,
As the shot echoes through the night.
As her scream pierces the silence.
As she wakes up from the nightmare.
