Deep Blue Water

by Flying Phoenix   Jul 21, 2005

The deep blue water
Calm across in the light
The mysterious things inside it
Wait for the night

A lone wanderer
Finds herself lost by the lake
Scared and worried
About what in it
May take
Her life is precious
So young and fragile
The creatures below the surface
Can sense her presence
Away from a mile

She lies down to rest
By the gentle liquid
Not knowing what danger
That staying there did

As darkness falls
A brilliant moon rises
Creating shimmering patterns
And things it entices

Long thin tentacles
Move out of the calm
Their slimy surface
Causing much alarm
Yet unknowingly she sleeps on
Until a mild touch
Arouses her warnings
Viciously she swings round
And attacks the indescribable
With kicks and punches
She gives them all she had
The creatures retreat quickly
From the girl who’d gone mad

The girl lays back down
And sings a quiet song
The creatures learnt then
She was the wrong thing to pick upon

Feeble though she looked
Inside there is a fire
Of a burning hate
And a ferocious desire
To destroy all the evil
And rejoice in good
Alone she will wander
Doing what every girl should
