The Drinker's Glass

by No Motiv?   Aug 20, 2005

The ceiling lights flicker
bathing in a pool of alcohol

fear fails to keep his company
what's risk when he's already lost it all?

steel determination guides his arm
whilst his throat begins to ache

he reaches for his hennessey
Time to see what he can take

ten glasses downed previous,
his mind begins to clear,

obviously he thinks nothing of
the purpose in his lover's fears

for she lies home tonight
her man at the bar, not at her side,

she prepares herself for heartbreak,
when alcohol and love collide

she'll expect faltered steps and broken words,
she'll even excuse his liquor breath

but whose she to greet [even drunk]
when alcohol claims a sudden death?

she cries because she doesn't want to encourage
the path he travels on

but how does one retrieve a heart,
when suddenly, it's gone?

Wow, I must say I've been stunned out of my highness with this poem, its like a jerk to reality and I have to say what a brilliant write, I liked the way you made a big issue into a story which really wrenched my heart and made me feel quite teary and emotional, that was brilliant explanations of feelings, I really really enjoyed that, very well done to you, I loved these lines the most

"fear fails to keep his company
what's risk when he's already lost it all?"

As I suppose that is a terrible state of mind to be in, whats risk when hes already lost it all, it would be terrible to live with thoughts like that..

Well done once again and keep up the good work

    take care
