Divided We Fall

Divided We Fall

Citizens of America,
Are you aware of your pretense?
You posture about like cattle,
Led blindly into a corral.
Those who supported Bosnia,
Rail like mad dogs against Iraq.
Many who support Bush’s war,
Condemned Clinton for his conflict.
Partisan politics rules you.
Your opinion is influenced,
By the president you support.
War was somehow acceptable,
To those in the liberal left,
When fought in Yugoslavia.
And on the conservative right,
Those who protested that action,
Supported the war in Iraq.
Your choices are predictable!
You are so easy to control!
Your freedom is slipping away,
And you are too blind to see it!
Politicians are just actors,
Reading from a pre-prepared script!
Do you think they really believe
The words they are given to read?
Their scripts serve only one purpose.
To tell you what you want to hear.
You like your opportunities,
And the toys that pacify you.
You love feeling like you’re better
Than those less fortunate than you!
You like to think that your choices
Indicate that you are wiser
Than those who chose a different path.
You are led to believe that your
Fellow citizens are your foes.
You separate yourselves with hate,
Loosing your venom without thought.
You hate because of politics,
And rage against religious views.
You act like your neighbor’s beliefs,
Color, or sexual preference
Poses some kind of threat to you.
Are you really that paranoid?
Is that all it takes to rout you?
Can my choices destroy your world?
Have you given me such power?
Do you wish to silence my voice,
Or take away my right to vote?
Why do you seek to destroy God,
If you don’t believe He exists?
What is the point of your crusade?
Is it because I do believe?
Should I not be allowed that right?
I have no more power than you.
Yet you make me your enemy.
The people remain divided,
While the puppeteers pull the strings.
We are pieces on a chessboard,
The products of our programming!
We are controlled by our own greed!
Liberals and conservatives,
Religious and non-religious,
Black, white, gay, straight, reasons to hate.
And in the end, who really wins?
Those who have the power, that’s who.
While we bicker amongst ourselves,
They are on about their business,
Unnoticed by those they control.
They quietly pick your pocket,
While you fight over presidents.
You help in their war against God,
Thinking you share their agenda.
You strive to eliminate God.
They just want to eliminate
The concept of God given rights.
Under God, we are all equal.
Under government, we are not.
So just ask yourself one question:
If you defeat me in our war,
Will it be you who gets the spoils?
While you’ve been distracted with me,
How many of your rights have been lost?
We, the people are divided,
And have only ourselves to blame.
We cannot grow as a nation
Doing battle with our neighbor.
As long as we are divided,
We have one direction to go.
A united people will rise,
But divide them and they will fall.
