Innocent Bystander

by Samantha   Oct 24, 2005

From the shadows I watch and see,
And count the times that you betray me.
Familiar faces now seeming foreign;
Once whole pieces are now torn.
Here, I have an excellent view of your show:
You're an actor and only I know,
Because you're playing in their reality
What cannot be accepted will not be seen
By the countless who have ignored
The truth in the lies you have formed.
The lies flowing from your lips so naturally,
Except lying's unacceptable so it cannot be.
The sky could be falling, no one would know -
Everyone's watching their feet as they go.
On their merry voyage, no cares need apply;
They've got no reason to ask themselves why
Your mask is slipping, they merely suppose
You're changing. And for once they know.
Because now you're unreachable, our distance the most it's been.
Reassuringly, I realize we'll be further at the end.
