What was it like?

What was it like?
Getting on a plane
knowing you might not see
your loved ones ever again

What was it like?
Knowing in order to save
your country you have to
kill another man

What was it like?
Holding a dying solider in your arms, who is shot down by
your enemies full of arms

TELL ME WHAT WAS IT LIKE?

Holding guns by your side,
Saving families one by one,
Eating meals without the ones
you have learned to love.

What was it like?
Sleeping in a cot without your wife
Not seeing your daughter
come into this world without you by her side....
or seeing her first smile when she heard the word "dad"

What was it like?
Watching videos of what you miss
Birthdays and Holidays
All of them you have missed

What was it like?
Going on a plane back home
Unarmed and in you street clothes

What was it like?
Seeing your wife
Seeing your daughter
As you step off your flight

Hugging your wife
meeting your baby girl for the 1st time
You are a stranger to her even though you brought her into this world

What was it like?
Coming home to your house
Seeing loved ones that you've missed
Telling them stories, showing them pictures of what it was like when you were over-seas
