Echo

by Daniel Alexander   Nov 4, 2005

Echo the emptiness
White wings flutter
Against the blackening
That pervades my soul
With each shallow breath
As life bleeds away
In Ruby Red drops of nothing
Acquainted with the night
I stumble from gutter to gutter
In search of my heart
And yet, it is too far gone
The scent worn away
Dry flowers and death
Where once was beauty
Just another lost lamb
Searching for love
And coming up empty
With a stake through my chest
And a kiss to poison my lips
Sets in slowly
As I revert to nothing
And my thoughts in a storm
Shatter like glass
As I put my fist through the wall
Betrayed
Betrayed by my own
Abandoning heart
