Map of the Human Heart

by Lauren   Nov 13, 2005

Deep beneath the skin and bone,
lies a heart, together it's sewn.
Stitch, thread, a needle pin,
angry lies created from sin.
Broken pieces begin to fall,
as it crumbles, the once strong wall.
Goals, dreams, hopes and fears,
a plastic world engulfed in tears.
Lost identity becomes a smock,
worn day after day to guard the rock.
As time prevails, the heart grows cold,
the feelings have drowned, the emotions been sold.
Lacking spirit, it's run by gear,
inside we look, let's take a peer.
After the suffering and hurt subsides,
the frozen heart is ready to hide.
A shell formed to absorb the pain,
at last it dies, nothing left to gain.
Now you've seen it from the start,
this is a map of the human heart.

I'd love some comments on this poem, it's my first one in a long time =) Thanks so much

Overall excellent poem. Might I make a suggestion though? Take the second line and change "it's" to "it is" I think that would make the poem flow more liquid-like. Great jorb.
