I was looking through our photo album

by Chelsey   Dec 9, 2005

I happened to crack open the book
That held the pictures of us
Easter, Halloween, Reunions
My favorite pictures of Christmas

You and our oldest brother
Spread out on the floor
Wrestling or playing games
As if you've never played them before

You held me when I was a baby
Made me do some crazy things
Like putting a garbage can on my head
While "The Alphabet" I would sing

We enjoyed many vacations
Watched each other grow
Went swimming together in the summer
Went sledding in the snow

I flip the pages one by one
As the tears roll down my eyes
Besides my father
You two are my favorite guys

As I flip yet another page
I see those smiles so wide
So young and innocent
Had nothing to ruin your pride

I reach half way through
I notice one brother drifts apart
It was as if I was just staring at him
Then all of a sudden came the dark

Off to be with his mother
So many states away
I flip through faster and faster
And realized he went astray

You popped up a couple of times
Thats when we got to see you once a year
I bet you didn't know
It was hard not haveing you near

Now see I was just a little girl
Didn't care much back then
But now I wish we could go back
To when the three of us were best friends

As I'm getting older
It hurts me much more
To walk into your old room
And not see you behind that door

Yes my oldest brother lives here
So many memories we have shared
So many times he's comfoted me
When I was crying and scared

You have just missed a lot though
Pictures are nothing to real life
I just hope you don't do this
To your soon to be wife

Give your career a little bit more attention
Then you do your family
Because you put baseball before us
At least thats what it appears to be

Now I see you once a year
Any one of those times could be the last
But its a good thing I have this photo album
To remember the good times of the past

Very well done! It starts off so warming with such fond memories only to soon reveal a tainted pain! A great write with emotion... Keep smiling =)
