It\'s Her First Day...(It\'s Her Last Day)

by Liz   Feb 3, 2006

It's her first day of life all pink and small,
What an innocent child not even two feet tall,
Kneading at her mother's breast to survive,
It's her first day of being alive...

It's her first day of her first step,
Watch her as she wobbles,
Catch her when she falls!
It's her first day of her first step into life...

It's her first day of her first word,
Listening to her yell "mommy, daddy!"
Your hearts fill with glee,
It's her first day of her first word into the "terrible two's"...

It's her first day of her first time using the "big girl" potty,
Smile and laugh as she sings ~~I did it mommy!!~~
Next it's on to kindergarten...
It's her first day of her first time becoming a big girl...

It's her first day of school and she's ready to go,
Her biggest fear is you leaving her alone,
But you convince her it's just a new adventure!
It's her first day of her road to success...

It's her first day of middle school and she's becoming a young lady,
You remember the time when she was only a baby,
She's growing up so fast,
It's her first day of her path to growing up...

It's her first day of her first period and she's in tears,
You explain to her it's no big deal and it too was one of your biggest fears,
She smiles and tells you that she loves you,
And you reply, "I love you too."
It's her first day of her first step into womanhood,

It's her first day of high school and now you're the enemy,
She no longer finds you funny,
But you know she still loves you,
It's her first day of making her own choices...

It's her first day of her first boyfriend,
She thinks she knows everything about love,
But that all must depend,
It's her first day of being on top of the world...

It's her first day of her first heartbreak,
You tell her the pain will go away soon enough,
And she nods smiling,
It's her first day of realizing mistakes...

It's her first day of college and she's leaving home,
You feel like you're being left all alone,
But she promises to come visit...
It's her first day of spreading her wings to go out on her own...

It's her first day of committing to a man,
You start to cry as he takes her hand,
And slips the ring on her finger,
It's her first day at true happiness...

It's her first day at being a mommy,
And your first day at being a grandma,
She's all grown up,
It's her first day at becoming everything you dreamed...

It's your last day and she's not ready for you to leave,
You smile at the memories,
She's made you so proud,
It's her first day of being left to fly on her own...

Now she'll watch all her daughter's firsts...
Her daughter's first step,
Her daughter's first word,
She's reliving her own world...

She'll watch her daughter's first love,
She'll watch her stroll down the aisle,
And she'll look up with a smile,
Knowing you're there...

Now she's old and laying in bed,
Every morning thinking she may be dead,
But she's not,
It's her first day of her last day...
