Memoirs of a Fallen Leaf

by HOLLY ARMER   Feb 6, 2006

Holding tight to
all I've ever known
as memories rip
at my heart
pieces fall around
each one with their
own story to be told

Fighting to prevail
as the past
shakes with ferocious
might loosening
my grip on sanity
praying against faith
to remain strong

Floundering within
the storms of days
gone by as summer
turns into fall
bringing whispers of
melancholy to my
weathered soul

Hope shatters
as my battle
is finally lost
in the winds
of the changing
seasons what shall
become of me?

Collapsing upon
a heap of lost
souls once
beautiful with
naturistic vibrance
now mere shadows
of their former selves

Mirroring
all that I am
reality settles
with calm devastation
as I turn bravely
to face the crunching force
of my demise

Hi Holly. I have been a member of this site for 11 years now but have been active only since April of this year. I looked for this poem because this is the only poem I have in my memory (I was in high school back then!). This greatly stirred something in me the first time I read this ten years ago. I really hope you get back and inspire us once again. This poem was just so beautifully written.
