If We Could Make A Difference... Would We?

by Chris Harding   Feb 11, 2006

More confident
More mature
More considerate for family as well as friends
To dedicate this confused and tormented heart
To an Internet fantasy
A computerized dream of sexual intimacy

An over worked father
On commission based income
My mothers a semi-depressed
Passionate librarian

I had what little I had to give
But what little I smoked away

Out of selfish stupid naivety
Struggling to contend with
These blurred misconceptions
Of this harsh reality

Of my older brother
Id say Id love him dearly
If it werent for this underlying
Sense of bitterness
Born out of teenage immaturity

Assuming the weight of the world upon these shoulders
For no apparent sensible reason
Why do we always seem to be
The only ones who care enough to clearly see
If we could make a difference
Would we see through our selfishness?
To try to stop all the evil that is
So achingly beyond our controlling

Even if I could still give
What Id already smoked away
To the helpless child
That pleas from my TV
Or the homeless addicts
On the streets of Derby
Or most important of all
My fracturing family
To the ones Id never dared to tell
Just how much I loved them tenderly

If I could die again and again
To save our house
From vicious TV loan companies
Our face the even looming doom of expulsion
Onto the streets of cold reality
Just more victims of Tony Blairs insanely over taxed idealist New labour democracy
