Under the same sky

by cheen   Feb 26, 2006

Footprints in the sand, being washed away by the irrepressible waves
The glistening dew in the petals, being dried up by the scorching heat
Echoes by the rain drops vanishing in the caves
Hums of the blue birds fading out in the bustling street

Such things in this world don't always stay as they are
They weaken and they die as time runs its way
But there's something in life that grows by far
A friendship that is endless like the night turns to day

I have met a special person with no price tags, with no cost
It seemed like she's from heaven but there are no wings by her side
We were in the 6th grade when our destinies have crossed
You would see we're the total opposites but in thoughts we collide

I didn't expect us to be the best of friends
Who would have ever thought the same?
I was just thinking that when the year ends
She'll just remember me by name

Our lives have paths far a million miles
Cultures and races poles apart
But each day I spent with her becomes worthwhile
Every minute we become one by heart

When a year had passed a tear had fallen
A sign of sadness and of bliss
Though we'll see each other a time and again
The memories of the past we'll always reminisce

But the following year was the best it could get
Our friendship became invincible as the water
No one can break it down, you could bet
We became closer and tougher!

But there's something in this friendship
Something I cannot help but fear
When you left this country I told myself to get a grip
But still kept wondering "is the end almost near?"

I have the fear to lose you
I'm afraid to drift away
Coz without you I have no clue
If I could see another light of day

I wouldn't let it happen
Not a single chance that I would
But no one in this world knows when
Or if a friendship really should

But though we're now worlds apart
It feels like you are still here
For you'll always be in my heart
You will always take away the fear

But there's something I wanted to say
It's that I'm sorry for what I have done
I've kept a secret that I didn't weigh
That for you weighed a million ton

If only I can lift it up for you
If only I can be the one burdened
Then I wouldn't think a time or two
Anything I'll do for my best friend

I wish that this friendship of ours
Be like not the footprints in the sand
Be like not the glow of the shiniest star
But remain strong and for eternity stand

So to my best friend I offer this poem
With sincerity and with all my love
Keep in mind that you're never far from home
We'll forever be one by the skies above
