Grey under Blush

by Kevin   Feb 27, 2006

And the old man
just hinted at in shades
but there for sure in subtle ways
that more and more with days
when passing minor windows and displays
does grab my eyes to glimpse decay

words too reveal his years
where vision fails in showing age
I hear him often sighing sadly
and weary try at being sage
as if a lifetime's truth breeds clearness
in reality he gives it gladly

to the source of all this
just a young man at ponder
mirrors and light bulbs ticking to tocking
lighting time so way off yonder
expertly marking where he's walking
a journey he would rather miss

A very deep and thoughtful poem, I like your very unique ideas and expression. I do think that punctuation would help clarify the meaning, pronunciation and flow. You have a very individual style, continue to work at it and keep experimenting.

The thing that I admire so much in your poetry is the abstract language. It is obvious that you have a clear point to convey, but you leave so many thing up to interpretation and so many intimations to make their impression.

This piece seems classic to me. It seems like an observational piece, rather than a statement. I hate to try and pin point exactly what it is about, for fear of missing the message, but what I get from this piece is that there is always an inner child within, and although age bestows wisdom it does not rid us of that inner child. Also about how history builds up in us all and we may or may not want to learn from it or pass on that wisdom.

I love the use of words and the feelings it stirs. There seems to be so many points all ending in the same place, something so abstract coming together beautifully but not concisely enough to be certain or judge it.

    Lovely job.
