Happy 18th Birthday

by JL   Mar 8, 2006

Today is your birthday
The would be eight-teen
An empty road laid ahead
So many sights unseen

There should be birthday cards,
Not cards of sympathy
People should be saying Happy Birthday
Not they are sad for me

Today you would be an adult
And could get that tattoo
I should be joyful and happy
However, I'm feeling rather blue

You were so excited for today
For the parties, friends and cheer
Emptiness fills the void in my heart
From you no longer being here

Today is your birthday
The would be eight-teen
Instead of celebrating
I'm sobbing on grass so green

*dedicated to my sister*
