On The Frontline

by Ashley Redden   Mar 19, 2006

Playing a game called War
Where we trade in lives for freedom
That our ancestors already gave us
That we let get away
Standing on the front line
Thinking about what mama use to say
Talking about how the world was
And problems shouldn't be solved this way
But I never thought twice
As I got my gun ready for another round
When I heard a voice say
Common boys we've got to many of our men and women down
Made me want to fight that much harder
Just to make uncle Sam proud
We traded off our positions
And I finally got to take a little break
Wrapping wounds in a rush
So I could send em a letter back home
First time Ive got to write anyone
Seems like in weeks
Wrote mama told her we were doing fine
And thanks for the pictures
To remind me of home
About time to lay it down
And call er a night
Thats when you miss em the most
Your Wife and little girl
A few tears roll down your face
As we say a little prayer
Get a nights rest and at it again
This is the last time
And I be damned if we let it get away
Got four more weeks left over seas
So excited to go home
And that letter for the family
Saying I'm not so sure I'm coming home
As I lay here on this battlefield
With the last little bit of life in me
I ask em to take care of the two
And the last tears roll down my face
Wish I would've listened to mama
When she said
You shouldn't solve it this way
And my last breath left in me
And you can still hear the
Last cries of a Soldier
