Afraid of love (rictameter)

by Melissa   Mar 30, 2006

I am
pretty ugly
to those who live outside
of my own fleshy existence.
Deathly afraid of their shadowy eyes
discovering my souls matter
then cruelly forsaking
the heart of who
I am.

A Rictameter is a 9 line poetry form. The first and last line are the same and the syllable count is as follows:
Line 1- 2 syllables- same as line 9
Line 2- 4 syllables
Line 3- 6 syllables
Line 4- 8 syllables
Line 5- 10 syllables
Line 6- 8 syllables
Line 7- 6 syllables
Line 8- 4 syllables
Line 9- 2 syllables- mirror line 1

I like the frankness of this poem which shows courage. There is a fear of rejection that lies inside all of us but usually can't admit to it. Fine writing.

Very raw, can almost feel the emotions you felt when you were writing this.
