The Canvas of Life

by Emma   Apr 4, 2006

A new life, a new canvas, a brand new start,
Life is seen by me as a peice of art.
Give me my easel, give me my brush,
My hand trembles and I'm cold to the touch.

Paint me a canvas of beautiful blue,
Symbolizing the love of me and you.
Splash on some orange like a blazing fire,
Symbolizing wealth, what we all desire.

Paint on some yellow with one simple stroke,
Describing the laughter that follows a joke.
Red for passion and purple for pride,
White for friends who stay side by side.

Crimson for the blood that runs through my veins,
Splash it all over and hope it stains.
Gray for the sadness and salty tears,
Green for the strength and conquering fears.

Paint me a canvas with pastel pink,
To symbolize innocence and a playful wink.
Silver for effort and gold for success,
I'm running out of colors, I must confess.

Life is all these colors mixed together,
I'm stuck with this painting now and forever.
This painting's my life from back to back,
This painting's my life...and the painting is black.

I may have left you a comment months ago saying 'omfg, I love it! lofficially my fav. poem!' or soemthin' like that. So I decided to go back now and reread it to see if I still like it. This is what I have to say:

Reading it again I can understand it more. But it is still my favorite poem. I expecially love the ending. Love it. Love it. LOVE IT.

Wow, this is a different point of view of someones life. I absolutely love it! I'm an art student, so all of the colors and what they symbolize was brilliant and the last stanza just brought it all together. I'm not sure if you saying your life is "black" is a good thing or a bad thing, but either way the symbolism was wonderful and the flow was amazing!

Keep up the great work...I'm adding you to my favs so if you keep writing, I'll keep reading! 5/5

    -Much love-
