WHITE MAN'S LAMENT(Ode To The Native Americans)

by Gary Jurechka   Apr 18, 2006

America, freedom in a cage,
feel it dying in fear and rage,
we've slaughtered the land
as if it were ours to command,
amidst progression and material pursuits
we have forgotten what is real,
burying paradise lost
under tombstones of concrete and steel.

Circa 1981

(this is old, dating back to my early teen age years, not that great a poem, but the sentiments ring even truer now)
