Bitterness Clouds

by C Cattaway   Apr 19, 2006

Who knew what would lay ahead?
Who knew all those words would be said?
Who could have guessed things would be this way?
Who could have known this would happen one day?

I know a story that will open your heart.
I know a dream that has fallen apart.
I know a boy whose whole life is a farce,
Just 'coz his father didn't want it to last.

How do you tell him that his dad's not his dad?
How do you say that our lives went bad?
How do you greet him, when he hears how you've lied?
How do you comfort him when his tears are all cried?

Are we to carry on making our truths?
Changing our minds, and faking the proof..
Are we to honestly not take the blame
For lying to him, and losing this game?

Funny, we blame not ourselves for the way
He smacks, and he bites, or the way he can't play.
No, the past is at fault for the things that are wrong,
As if covering up is the way to go on.

Perhaps, if we're honest now, we could still save
Some of the sanity we took away,
Because that little boy has a heart made of gold,
And why should he suffer for our lies of old?

I've really been thinking. It's true what they say,
That Bitterness Clouds, and just gets in the way.
We've given, and taken, and kept up the fight,
But nobody knows if what we've done is right!

We have to give up all the hurt and the pain.
We have to let go, and stop playing this game.
We have to be honest, and then just be strong
To show him we love him. Then life can go on!

Never lie to your child!!
