Countdown to Eternity

by MemoirsOfMe   Apr 26, 2006

10, 9, 8
The crowd screamed
7, 6, 5
They couldn't hear a thing
Fireworks boomed
I sat there with fright
While the crowd stood in glee delight

The peace was not settled
It was me and him
His face narrowing on mine
My life hanging by a limb
His voice was but a whisper
A threat to my ear
My whole body shaking in unspoken fear

The crowd roared
I sat there in shock
I was stuck in a room
With no given lock
My last few minutes of torture
Was more than I could stand
Then the knife lifted to his very hand

The cold blade was a shiver to my skin
I feel my cold tears fall
With my hysterical face,
That couldn't bellow a call

I was helpless at that
The sheer blade ran across my throat
He was my father
and he left a suicide note.

This poem has a real sense of progression and I loved the twist at the end. I really well expressed piece and I loved every line. I also really liked the way that you used to rhyme for effect rather thanm constantly all the way through, it was a really brave choice and you carried it well. Great stuff, 5/5 x
