Wandering Soul

by Kaylee   May 20, 2006

Midnight, sleeping beneath canopy
of stars, of which morning prospers.
Twas another step in this journey upon
that I find myself a wandering soul.
This path is but a minor skipping stone
embedding itself within life.

I find myself sitting in my own
Garden of Eden, injecting beauty.
Lest this moment fade may I
remember the turning leaves beneath.
Of course darkness can not disappear
entirely with light, never all.

It causes me to fall through the
Earth, this misconception of death.
Listening to the breathing of which
I had forgotten, such simplicity.
Sunlight streaming through the
canopy I could not keep hold of.

And here I am awaking this morning,
emotionally a wandering soul.
A disaster upon myself.

Impressive write, and best of luck in the contest. Strangly I've read this before but heaven knows why I didn't comment...
The second line of the second stanza really stood out to me. I liked your use of language and descriptions though out, very powerful. The last line was very sad and sinister and gave a strong ending.
    Well done.

Of course darkness can not disappear
    entirely with light, never all.

You couldn't have described darkness better.

    Wonderful play of words - this poem reveals so much more than the obvious - our incessant thirst to move on lest time passes us by;

reading your work is always so refreshing.

    good luck and peace
