Pilgrim

Looking into his fearful eyes
I see ribbons of despair
Once dancing like spirited flames
Now dull with a hopeless stare.

His coat a tatter of mud and scars
Yet his mind suffers the pain
Trauma and nightmares fall so deep
It's a struggle to keep him sane.

Hiding from the world and its gaze
His anger drives them away
Living in terror and blind confusion
With haunting memories to stay.

His life turned cold in a horrific flash
Injuries brushing him close to death
Losing his trust in life itself
Struggling with each dusty breath.

Seeking refuge in darkness alone
Shadows engulf his soft brown eyes
A beautiful creature desperate for hope
Before the last flicker burns and dies.

(this poem was inspired by the book/film "the Horse Whisperer" and is about the horse 'Pilgrim' who is severely traumatized after a nasty accident. i recommend it to everyone, its very good. hope u like the poem :) )
