Raspberry Summers

by Sean Allen   Jun 15, 2006

If only I could return
and steal a gentle kiss,
tart but sweet,
from your raspberry lips:

When can I come home
and take that journey
to the vast maple tree
where we'd feast till sick
and revel with glee?
I would hold you
and you'd whisper to me:
"Let's always meet here
and share raspberries."

Oh, how good it felt
to laugh and play
when the sky was blue
on those lazy summer days.

And oh, how I'd dream,
as I lay in my bed,
of those raspberry lips--
forever stained red.
As these thoughts chase
one another through my head,
I can say with all honesty
that I dream of them still.

Someday I'll return to you,
I promise, one day I will.
